Farmers Fighting Hunger

Farm direct hunger relief

 Mission

Advocating the 2023 farm bill fund food access programs to make farm direct purchases, to support local economies, culturally appreciated food, and more nutrient dense food to those in need

 History

Farmers Fighting Hunger campaign was launched as a result of research done by Evergreen State College, Master in Public Administration students, Tanya Lavoy, Sarah Myers, and Warren Neth. A mixed method research project into how the pandemic affected fresh food access in Western Washington food bank networks.

The interviews with food bank leaders highlighted the success of Washington state funded programs, that allowed food pantries to source from local farms, We Feed Washington and Farm to Food Pantry. These locally sourced hunger relief programs helped food pantries to fill in gaps left by supply chain during the pandemic.
